I was called in to my rescue to work with a kitten who had a very rough start to her life. Belle was rescued from the town shelter and she is tortoiseshell feline who has had several challenges including some neurological issues, eye problems and a respiratory ailment.

She was originally kept in the hall area of the rescue where the “isolation” sick cases are kept, away from the healthier kittens. She was placed with a tiny tabby cagemate named Katy Perry and they actually seemed to have formed a caring bond. Laying together also helps with keeping body temperature healthy and also offers comfort.

For my first visit, I sat on a folding chair right outside the cage (which was at my eye level) and first connected with Belle and Katy P. to let  them know I was offering Reiki energy and that they could take as much as they wished and that I was there to help them.  I let the energy flow and then, feeling a very positive response in Belle, took her out of the cage and let her curl up on my lap in a towel (to keep her warm because it is very cold in the area.) I let the Reiki bathe both of us in its light and warmth, as little Katy watched with interest, still in the cage, but right at the front as close to me as possible. Belle simply soaked up the energy.  Her eyes were fairly cloudy and I was not sure if she could see.  I know these sick kittens on a variety of medications to help them, including eye washes and eye ointment.

I could feel Belle just deeply relaxing on my lap and chest, soaking up the Reiki. I stayed like this with her for about a half hour and she seemed so peaceful and content.  Then I placed her back in her cage and spent some similar Reiki time with Katy P. who just climbed up under my chin and curled up there, also sopping up the energy.  After that session, I provided some wet food for them and them ate very heartily.  Then both of them just snuggled up together in their bed, looking very serene.

I returned several days later and was delighted to see that Belle’s eyes looked much clearer and bright!  I did a very similar session for both cats and felt such a special and loving connection with them. (Reiki always fosters that beautiful emotion.)

I was not able to return for over a week, but was thrilled to see that Belle’s eyes looked even better. And she was breathing much better as well.  Both kittens were well enough to have moved into the regular kitten room and out of isolation – that was such a wonderful thing to see.

I spent some time giving them each a session and now Belle was purring so loudly and contentedly during her session.  Afterwards, both Belle and Katy P. were really hungry and consumed some wet food with great zest. Then they actually were playing together for awhile and I was pleased to see that they were more active than ever before.  I know that Belle has some sort of neurological problem, and I think some of it is with her mobility, but she she is trying her best to be an active and normal kitty.

These two still have a long journey ahead and Katy P. needs to still put on some weight as she seems smaller than she should be at this point.  But I trust that the Reiki has given them both a boost to help them thrive and grow…
